Mountain Biking Lessons at Fernie Alpine Resort

Ready to build your mountain biking skills or try downhill riding for the first time?

Fernie Alpine Resort’s Summer Adventure School offers private lessons, skill-development programs, women’s clinics, and youth camps led by experienced coaches.

Whether you’re taking your first lap in the Bike Park or looking to refine your technique, our programs are designed to help you progress with confidence in a fun, supportive environment.

Our coaching focuses on developing strong fundamentals, improving trail awareness, and building the skills needed to ride safely and confidently on a variety of terrain.

Description:
Experience the thrill of downhill mountain biking with the guidance of a professional coach. This introductory package is designed for novice riders looking to build confidence and develop fundamental skills while exploring Fernie's lift-accessed bike park terrain.

Your package includes 3 hours of professional coaching, a 3-hour downhill mountain bike rental, and a 3-hour lift ticket, providing everything you need for an unforgettable introduction to mountain biking.

MOUNTAIN BIKE PRIVATE LESSONS

Accelerate your progression with one-on-one or private group coaching tailored to your goals, ability level, and riding style. Whether you're taking your first turns in the Bike Park, building confidence on technical terrain, or refining advanced skills, our experienced coaches will create a personalized learning experience designed to help you get the most out of every run.

CLINICS & CAMPS

Develop your skills, meet other riders, and progress in a fun and supportive environment. Our clinics and camps are designed for a range of ages and abilities, offering focused coaching, guided progression, and plenty of trail time. From youth freeride camps to women's skills clinics, there's a program to help every rider take the next step.

ADULT DOWNHILL CLINICS

Join our expert coaches in these exclusive adult-specific mountain bike clinics.  Designed for riders 17 and older, our clinics focus on building technical skills, improving control, and increasing confidence.

Ages: 17+

Session Time: 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

Duration: 4 hours + 1 hour lunch break

Dates:

  • July 11 – Intro to Downhill Mountain Biking (Level 1 + 2)
  • July 18 - Coasting: Berms + Turns (Level 3)
  • July 25 - Roots, Rocks + Drops (Level 3)
  • August 1 - Intro to Downhill Mountain Biking (Level 1 + 2)
  • August 8 - Coasting: Berms + Turns (Level 3)
  • August 15 - Roots, Rocks + Drops (Level 3)

Price: $159 (includes lift ticket and instruction)

Additional Information:

WOMEN'S PROGRESSION NIGHTS

Intermediate Riders

These women’s evening mountain bike clinics are designed for intermediate riders ready to take their riding to the next level. Join our experienced coaches for focused skill development sessions covering trail technique, confidence-building, and progression in a fun and welcoming group atmosphere.

Ages: 17+

Session Time: 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Ability Level: Participants should be comfortable riding intermediate downhill trails and terrain.

Duration: 3 hours

Dates: July 21 & August 18

Price:  $123 per person (includes lift ticket + coaching)

Additional Information

Registration is open to a maximum of 7 participants (minimum of 3 participants).

DH bike rentals are available at a discounted rate.

KIDS & YOUTH FREERIDE CAMPS

Looking for an exciting downhill mountain biking camp in Fernie for your child or teen?

Our Kids’ & Youth Freeride Mountain Bike Camps are designed to teach riders ages 8–16 how to ride hard, ride safe, and build confidence on the trails. With small group sizes and professional coaching, participants get focused, skill-based instruction tailored to their age and ability level.

Whether your child is new to downhill biking or looking to level up their skills, our 2-day summer camps offer the perfect opportunity to explore Fernie’s world-class terrain in a supportive and fun environment.

2026 Camp Dates:

Kids (Beginner/Intermediate):  July 6-7, July 20-21, August 3-4, August 17-18

Youth (Beginner/Intermediate):  July 13-14, July 27-28, August 10-11, August 24-25

Time: 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
Price: $339 + tax

Camp Details:

  • Ages 8–12 (Kids) & 13–16 (Youth)
  • 7:1 participant-to-coach ratio

Frequently Asked Questions

Mountain Bike Lessons & Camps at Fernie Alpine Resort

No. Downhill mountain bike rentals are available through our Rental Shop. Some lessons and packages include bike rentals, while others can be added separately during booking.

A valid Bike Park lift ticket is required to access the trails. Some lessons, clinics, and camps include a lift ticket, while others require a separate purchase. Please check the details of your selected program.

We offer coaching for all ability levels, from first-time riders to experienced mountain bikers looking to develop advanced skills. Program descriptions include recommended ability levels to help you choose the best fit.

Participants should arrive dressed for the weather and ready to ride. We recommend bringing water, snacks, sunscreen, and appropriate riding apparel. A full-face helmet is required for downhill riding and can be rented if needed.

Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your lesson, clinic, or camp begins to allow time for check-in, lift ticket collection, equipment rentals, and waivers.

Mountain biking programs operate in most weather conditions. In the event of severe weather or lift closures, our team will contact participants regarding any schedule changes, cancellations, or available alternatives.

Yes. Private lessons are available for individuals, families, and groups. Private coaching offers personalized instruction tailored to your group's goals and ability levels.

Age requirements vary by program. Private lessons are available for riders aged 8+, with some programs available for younger participants by special arrangement. Please refer to individual program descriptions for specific age requirements.

Yes. All participants must complete a waiver before participating. Riders under 16 years of age must have a parent or legal guardian complete the waiver on their behalf.

MOUNTAIN BIKE ABILITY CHART



LEVEL 1

Novice

You are new to mountain biking or cross country biking, and have basic bike handling skills and are comfortable and in control of your bike on paved surfaces.



LEVEL 2

Beginner

You have tried mountain biking or cross country biking before, riding off-road rocky terrain with limited experience, riding green runs.



LEVEL 3

Intermediate

You are comfortable on your mountain bike and have been riding single track trails and most blue runs with confidence. You can control bike speed and direction most of the time and have been riding for at least 2 years.



LEVEL 4

Advanced

You have already developed strong riding skills and have a minimum of 3 years of mountain biking experience. You ride blue and most black run with confidence, like technical descends, obstacles and fast-paced riding.

CANCELLATION POLICY

The following refund/cancellation policies apply:

• 24 hours before lesson start time – Rebooking of lessons or a full refund, less a $29 admin fee.

• Within 24 hours of the lesson start time – Rebooking of lesson ($29 admin fee), no refund.

• No-show for lessons – No refund and No rebooking of lessons.

The following refund/cancellation policies apply:

  • 7+ days before camp start: Full refund or rebooking minus a $29 administration fee
  • Within 7 days of camp start: No refunds

 A minimum of 4 participants is required for the camp to run. If this minimum is not met, a full refund will be issued.
