Get Ready for the Ultimate Hockey Skills Showdown On The Snow!

Ready to compete, have fun, and win incredible prizes? Join us for Hockey Day(s) in Fernie at the Bears Den on Saturday, January 10th, for an action-packed skills competition open to all ages and skill levels! Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned player, this is your chance to showcase your talent and have a blast while competing for awesome prizes. That evening, cheer on our local junior hockey team, the Fernie Ghostriders, as they take on the Kimberly Dynamiters. Then, on Sunday, January 11th, come up to the plaza in the afternoon for a meet and greet with members from the Fernie Ghostriders!  It's going to be a weekend of jam-packed hockey fun.

On Sunday, January 11, 2026, Fernie Alpine Resort will say 'Thank You' to our local community by offering a low cost day of skiing and riding to the residents of the Elk Valley/Jaffray/Grasmere as part of the annual Community Appreciation Day.

Fernie Alpine Resort joins Avalanche Canada, other resorts and clubs to celebrate winter and avalanche education through Avalanche Awareness Days on January 17th and 18th.

Here in Fernie, we have a weekend full of interactive and educational activities in the base area and on the mountain!

Come down for a casual and fun afternoon at the Rail Park! There will be tunes playing and cash for tricks happening!

Whether you're a park rat, want to try your first 50/50 box slide or just come watch and enjoy the vibe - all are welcome!

Get ready to drop in as Fernie Alpine Resort is excited to host the Jeep Junior Freeride!

This IFSA regional event showcases up-and-coming freeriders as they throw down their best lines in big-mountain terrain. This competition is designed for developing athletes looking to earn IFSA points, gain valuable contest experience, and take the next step in their freeride journey.

Riders will be judged on line choice, control, fluidity, technique, and style as they navigate natural features down a set run on the mountain. Expect high energy, progressive skiing and riding, and a strong community vibe as competitors push themselves and each other.

Whether you’re just getting started or leveling up your freeride skills, this 2-star event is the perfect opportunity to showcase your riding and join the freeride community. Spectators are welcome—come watch the action and support the next generation of freeride athletes!

The event is open to skiers and snowboards in the following categories U12, U15 and U19.

Enjoy Family Day Weekend by night skiing on The Mighty Moose lift, with the slope lit up from 4pm to 9pm!

Ski under the lights and enjoy this fun experience with your family!

A Lift Ticket or Season Pass is required to access the lift and slope.

Your daytime lift ticket is valid for night skiing (on the same day), or night ski-only tickets are available at Fernie Alpine Resort Rental Shop.

*Please note:  Night Skiing will pause briefly at approx. 4:45 pm for 10-15 minutes while our cat crew freshens up the slope with a quick groom.

Get ready for some friendly family competition! Whether it's racing your mom, cousin, or sibling, the Family Fun Race is all about having fun together on Sunday, Feb 15th.

Families can sign up to race down the course. However, unlike a traditional race, the families are tasked with guessing their combined time to complete the course. The winner is then the family that was closest to their correct time. The race will consist of a gentle slalom course open to most skill levels.

The first event in the Raging Elk Community Event Series and a highlight of Fernie’s winter Griz Festival! Strictly for fun, this competition features imaginative & hilarious “dummies” on skis launching themselves off a gigantic jump beside the Timber Chair.

The dummies can be created from various materials, and creativity is stressed. They are judged on their construction, creativity, theme, distance, and the carnage factor when they land.

Prizes are awarded for the best construction, theme/name, disintegration, flight, and more!
