SCENIC CHAIRLIFT RIDES

Elk Chair

10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Extended hours until 7:00 pm every Tuesday and Thursday

Timber Chair

Sightseeing, Hiking & Downhill Mountain Biking
Open Weekends & Statutory Holidays
(July 1, August 3 & September 7)
10:00 am to 4:00 pm

Please note: The Timber Chair will be closed to the public on July 11 & 12 during the Canada Cup Downhill Race.

Experience the mountains from a whole new perspective with scenic chairlift rides at Fernie Alpine Resort. Throughout the summer season, guests can access alpine sightseeing, hiking trails, family attractions, and downhill mountain biking via the Elk Chair and Timber Chair.

Whether you’re hiking, sightseeing, biking, or simply soaking in the alpine atmosphere, Fernie Alpine Resort offers an unforgettable summer mountain experience.

Please Note:

Sightseeing lift tickets are valid for one scenic ride up and down the chairlift
All children must be able to walk independently to ride the chairlift

Elk Chair Adventures

Operating daily throughout the summer, the Elk Chair provides access to a variety of mountaintop experiences for all ages.

After a scenic ride into the alpine, guests can:

  • Explore family-friendly hiking trails
  • Take in panoramic views from the Lizard Bowl Observation Deck
  • Discover fossils and geological features along Skeleton Flats
  • Enjoy alpine wildflowers and native trees
  • Spot local wildlife throughout the mountain trails

Guests can return to the base area via the Elk Chair for a relaxing scenic descent or continue their adventure by hiking one of the on-mountain trails back down.

Timber Chair Experiences

The Timber Chair returns this summer on weekends and statutory holidays, providing additional access to alpine hiking trails, scenic viewpoints, and downhill mountain biking terrain.

Visitors can:

  • Explore alpine hiking trails
  • Access downhill mountain bike terrain
  • Relax at Lost Boys Café
  • Enjoy panoramic mountain views
  • Attend Music on the Mountain events throughout the summer season

The Timber area offers a more rugged alpine experience and is a favourite for adventure seekers looking to explore more of the mountain.

Family Activities at Elk Top

Families will love exploring the Elk Top attractions, designed to combine outdoor adventure with interactive learning and play.

Highlights include:

  • Nature Bob's Interpretive Centre
  • Elk Grove Forest Playground
  • Lawn games in the alpine
  • Scenic picnic and relaxation areas
