CARV at Fernie Alpine Resort

The next big technological advancement in skiing is here at Fernie.

 
Stop guessing — start improving. CARV combines real-time performance data with expert on-snow coaching from Fernie’s CARV-trained pros. Small sensors attach directly to your ski boots and track every turn, providing personalized feedback and measurable insights into your skiing.

Your coach combines CARV’s data with their own observations to help you understand what’s happening in your skiing, identify where you can make the biggest improvements, and turn that information into changes you can feel on snow.

Whether you want to improve your carving, become more balanced and efficient, or simply better understand your skiing, CARV brings a new level of insight and focus to your development.

How CARV works

CARV uses small sensors that attach to your ski boots and connect with the CARV app to analyze your skiing as you move down the mountain. Your coach uses this data alongside their own observations — and video when available — to:

  • Identify what’s happening in your turns, not just what it feels like.

  • Set clear, achievable goals for your skiing

  • Connect drills and coaching cues to measurable feedback

  • Track changes and progress throughout your session

Going beyond carving

While CARV is often associated with carving, its value goes well beyond groomed runs. At Fernie, we use CARV as an all-mountain coaching tool, helping skiers develop the skills, awareness and confidence needed for variable snow, steeps, bumps and off-piste terrain.

By providing objective feedback on your skiing, CARV can help build a clearer understanding of how you move and perform from turn to turn. Combined with expert coaching, those insights can be translated into stronger fundamentals, greater efficiency and more adaptable skiing across the mountain.

Combine expert coaching with objective performance data in a CARV Private Lesson at Fernie Alpine Resort.

Your CARV-trained Winter Sports School pro combines personalized coaching with CARV’s real-time performance data to give you a deeper understanding of your skiing. Using CARV metrics alongside their own observations, your coach will identify the biggest opportunities for improvement and turn that information into practical changes you can feel on snow.

Whether you want to become more balanced and efficient, improve your carving, or take your skiing to a higher level, your session is built around your skiing, your goals and what will make the greatest difference.

Already use CARV? We’ll help you better understand your data and translate it into meaningful changes on snow. New to CARV? No problem — rental units are available so you can experience data-supported coaching for yourself.

CARV PERFORMANCE ACADEMY CAMPS

Take your skiing further with CARV-supported coaching through the Fernie Performance Academy.

Led by Peter Stewart, Level 4 Ski & Snowboard Pro, these Performance Academy camps combine Peter’s structured, goal-driven coaching with CARV’s real-time performance data. The technology adds another layer of insight to the coaching process, helping you better understand your skiing, track changes and focus on the areas that will make the biggest difference.

Peter uses CARV data alongside his own observations to create clear goals, targeted drills and personalized feedback throughout the day. The focus isn’t simply on improving your CARV scores — it’s using the data to support meaningful changes in your skiing.

Choose from Peter’s scheduled 1-day and 2-day Performance Academy camps for coaching tailored specifically to your skiing and goals.

Experience CARV on your own with one of our daily rental units.

CARV tracks every turn, using small sensors that clip onto your ski boots and connect to your smartphone. It learns how you ski, adapts to your level, and provides personalized tips, real-time feedback and detailed post-run analysis — giving you a new way to understand your skiing and track your progress.
