Fernie Alpine Resort is one of British Columbia’s most sought-after wedding venues, offering panoramic mountain views, versatile ceremony and reception spaces, on-site accommodations, and year-round activities for your guests. Below, we’ve answered the most common questions to help you plan your perfect wedding in the Canadian Rockies. 

Fernie Alpine Resort features two unique outdoor ceremony venues: 

  • Kodiak Deck at Elk Top – Reachable by chairlift, this mountaintop deck offers breathtaking views of the Elk Valley and the surrounding Rocky Mountains. Perfect for couples who want a memorable alpine ceremony with an adventurous twist.
    Capacity: Up to 100 guests (includes lift tickets). 
  • Lizard Creek Lodge Lawn – A scenic base-area lawn framed by the dramatic Lizard Range.
    Capacity: Up to 120 guests.  

We offer reception venues for every style of celebration, from elegant dining to rustic mountain charm. 

Cirque Restaurant at Lizard Creek Lodge 

Our most popular reception venue, Cirque Restaurant, combines modern alpine style with spectacular mountain views. It offers: 

  • Seating for up to 120 guests 
  • Locally inspired menus by our culinary team 
  • Floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing the Lizard Range 

The Griz Bar 

Perfect for couples seeking a relaxed, rustic vibe, the Griz Bar is renowned for its authentic mountain character and lively atmosphere. It features: 

  • Seating for up to 150 guests 
  • A rustic alpine interior with mountain charm 
  • Stunning views of the surrounding peaks 

Hosting your wedding reception at Fernie Alpine Resort means everything you need is in one place—ceremony sites, dining, accommodations, and activities. Both Cirque Restaurant and the Griz Bar take full advantage of the mountain scenery, offering flexible layouts, exceptional food, and a welcoming atmosphere. 

Yes! Lizard Creek Lodge offers fully equipped condo-style suites featuring full kitchens, fireplaces, and private balconies. Additional lodging options are available nearby, ensuring convenience for all guests. 

Yes – if you’ve booked Cirque Restaurant & Bar for your wedding reception, a full lodge buyout is required. This means all guest rooms at Lizard Creek Lodge must be booked for a minimum of two nights. Room sizes vary and can accommodate between 2 to 8 guests depending on the unit type. 

Please note: A three-night minimum stay applies over long weekends. 

We are just a 10-minute drive from downtown Fernie, where guests can enjoy cafés, restaurants, shops, and local attractions. If your guests are staying in town, we recommend arranging transportation to and from the resort well in advance, as options in Fernie can be limited—especially on weekends. Tunnel 49 is a popular local shuttle service commonly used by wedding groups. 

Fernie offers activities that your guests can enjoy before and after your celebration:  

  • Summer: Soak in the mountain views with scenic chairlift rides (inquire for our operating season), explore hiking and mountain biking trails, relax with spa treatments, enjoy outdoor dining, or stroll through the charming shops and cafés in downtown Fernie. 
  • Fall: Experience Fernie’s quieter, golden season with crisp mountain hikes and stunning fall foliage. Guests can cozy up at local cafés and breweries, browse downtown boutiques, or take in the peaceful atmosphere before winter arrives. 

Spring, summer, and fall are the most popular seasons for weddings, with warm weather, vibrant wildflowers, and spectacular views. Winter weddings are not available, as our ceremony sites often become snow-covered and our reception sites are in full operation.  

Not necessarily. You're welcome to book just a ceremony or just a reception—however, ceremony-only bookings are not available on weekends. Many couples choose to host both at the resort for a seamless experience, but we’re happy to accommodate either option on weekdays based on your needs and vision. 

We provide a venue host to assist with venue-related logistics, setup, and catering on the day. For full event planning and décor, we recommend hiring a professional wedding planner. 

We recommend booking 12–18 months in advance to secure your preferred date and venue, especially for popular summer weekends. 

Yes! Venue tours are available by appointment. Contact our Wedding Team to schedule a tour. Please note: Ceremony sites are snow-covered in winter; you are still welcome to visit our reception sites, however.  

  • Reception Venue Fee: Tables, chairs, dinnerware, glassware, white linens, a music stand for speeches, bartending/serving staff, and full setup and takedown. 
  • Ceremony Site Fee: Exclusive use of the site, a platform and arch, and seating for up to 100 guests. Kodiak Deck rentals include lift tickets for up to 100 guests. 

Pricing varies depending on the season, venue choice, and guest numbers. Contact our Wedding Team for a personalised cost estimate.  

Top wedding photo spots include the Kodiak Deck with 360° mountain views, the Lizard Creek Lawn, scenic forest trails, and other alpine viewpoints. We often recommend working with a local photographer, as they are familiar with the best locations around the mountain.
